about us

Idoc’s Photo Tours is a combined effort by Gary L. Renier, O.D. and Thomas H. Smith, O.D. to promote the enjoyment of nature photography. We are optometrists and avid nature photography enthusiasts. Our Idocs Photo Tour CDs show you where to be at the perfect time of day for the very best nature photography opportunities. Our Idocs Photo Tour CDs give you specific instructions for taking breathtaking photos at the perfect moment at some of the world's most popular scenic sites.

We have busy office schedules and family lives, which limit our photography time. Therefore, we need to maximize the productivity of our time when on a photographic trip (sound familiar?).

Although there are some useful resources about photographic sites in
Photographic America newsletter, in Photo Traveler, and on the Internet, we have been frustrated with the lack of sufficiently detailed information that provides truly exceptional, meticulously detailed descriptions of photographic locations.

We found ourselves spending hours going over the Internet information, the various newsletters, topographical maps and local area booklets to plan and customize our trips, usually of short duration, to maximize our photographic time. Often, we were still
unable to find sufficiently detailed information for photographing some of the world's most popular scenic sites. With busy optometric practices and family schedules, we were frustrated spending the majority of our vacation time in search of the perfect photo opportunities. We soon realized that other photographers were also in search of this same information.

There is nothing more frustrating than arriving at a beautiful photography location and spending two days familiarizing ourselves with the area just to photograph for one day. We are a fast and mobile society that needs to be as productive as possible with limited time. The advanced-amateur and professional photographer knows that productive time is critically important.

To make the best use of limited time for maximum enjoyment of nature photography, we have designed our Idocs Photo Tours with a wealth of information and description to allow your visit to be as productive as possible.

We are not here to teach you photography (we hope you already know this) but rather to detail the photographic locations allowing you to customize your visit. We could spend hours teaching about optics, lenses, filtration, camera-eye, etc. yet we would rather have you in the correct location at the proper time of day ready to photograph nature. We have spent many hours compiling these tours. Whether you spend two days or two weeks, your photographic adventure will be well planned and detailed.

The maps that accompany each tour are sketchy and intended for orientation only. We strongly suggest you visit your local bookstore for a topographical map of the Park or area you intend to visit. As you read our Photo Tour you can follow us around the topographical map for elevation, locations and structure at each point.

Our series of Idocs Photo Tour CDs were developed to help those with busy lives make more productive use of time and photo trips more enjoyable. These CDs provide detailed descriptions to many popular photographic sites by explaining where to be at what time of day for the very best nature photography opportunities. Idocs Photo Tour CDs can take you to Southwest Florida, Southwest Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, the North Shore of Lake Superior or the Grand Staircase at Escalante National Monument and more.

We go beyond the typical information you will find by giving you specific instructions for taking breathtaking photos at the perfect moment.

Take Idocs Photo Tours along on your next vacation!

Idocs Photo Tour CDs are packed with detailed descriptions of some of the most scenic photo locations in North America. Idocs Photo CDs are loaded with a wealth of detailed information and descriptions to make your nature photography vacation the most productive possible.

We detail the perfect photographic locations allowing you to customize your nature photography trips. As you read the details of each Idocs Photo Tour, you can follow us around the topographical map for elevation, locations and structure at each magnificent photogra
phic point.
