Sunrise Point
South of the Visitor Center and beyond the Campground road you will see the spur road to Sunrise Point. As the
name indicates, this is a sunrise location that provides a great view of a concentrated limestone pillar amphitheater.
The amphitheater is to your south.
Fairyland Point is to the north and to the southeast you will
look over Queen's Garden. When the sun comes over the horizon you want to be at Sunrise Point with a lot of film
and warm clothing in the fall or winter months. The spires cast long shadows, at sunrise, creating a three-dimensional
world. The red fins glow but within thirty minutes the light begins to flatten. You can take the Queen's Garden
Trail into the canyon but we suggest you pass this route for now. Should you have time, the Queen's Garden Trail
is a nice trail as it passes through tunnels that can be used to frame the views. Before you leave Sunrise Point,
walk to the south of the overlook where you will see a small pine with its roots exposed. This is a great image
with the pine tree in the foreground and the amphitheater in the background.
