Denali National Park
10.6 miles: Use the
pullout on the south side of the road and look for Denali, flanked by two mountains. Remember you have a 10% chance
of seeing the mountain; so don't be surprised if you miss it.
14 miles: As you approach the Savage
River the road makes a sweeping curve to the right, with a steep drop off to the left and the river. If you can
pull over this is a great spot to scope the river bottom for wildlife. You have an excellent chance of seeing caribou
and a reasonable chance of moose and grizzly. The mountain range to the south offers nice scenic shooting.
14.8 miles: This is
the bridge over the Savage River and the end of the private vehicle portion of the road. Pull into the parking
lot to the right just before you start across the bridge. I described the Savage River trail above so please consider
the three mile hike. But this section is for those who want to not venture far from their vehicles and this parking
lot offers some great opportunities.
