Colorado Fall Colors Photographic Guide provides.
Rail Fence
You want to leave Ouray about one hour before official sunrise, drive north on highway 550 to Ridgeway where you
turn left onto highway 62. Continue west on highway 62 until you see the Scenic Overlook sign; park in the pullout
on the south side of the highway.
This is private property; you must ask permission to walk this
fence line! Walk the highway edge east until you see the pond; cross the ditch and the pond on the east side over
the small dam.
Follow the rail fence to the south until it drops over the hill;
stop at this crest for your morning shoot. This is about a ten-minute walk from the parking lot. This is a classic
fall Colorado shoot with the rail fence in the foreground, mountains and aspen groves in the background. This is
only a sunrise shot at this time of year. A wide-angle (20-35 mm) lens will give you the full prospective yet don't
forget to use a longer lens for more detail. You want to be at this location before official sunrise and setup
as the light changes rapidly. The official sunrise the day of our visit was at 7:01 AM at 85 degrees and just at
7:25 AM the scene began to light up with vibrant color.
