Wind Canyon
The main road, after Wind Canyon, leads uphill (southeast) to our favorite sunrise and mid-morning locations. At
the top of the hill just as it rounds a rock-faced hillside on your right pull into the parking lot on your left.
Look west and you will see a chocolate drop hill - walk around it to find the trail that leads you west along a
flattop butte. Walk to the west edge of this butte where you will have a great view of the Little Missouri River
in the foreground and the North Dakota Badlands in the background. The river makes a sharp bend here that gives
a nice leading line to the background. A wide angle lens works well at this location. You will see the rock formation
at the butte rim, which you may want to include in the foreground. This location is excellent at sunrise.
