Half Dome
The classic view of Half Dome is from the Sentinel Bridge at sunset with the Merced River in the foreground. You
want to park in the Sentinel Bridge parking lot (north) at least 2 ½ hours before the official sunset. Walk
to the mid-bridge walkway to position yourself on the east side, to the right of the sign. Expect this bridge to
be three deep with visitors before sunset. During the summer the Merced River will host children rafting down the
river. During the fall and winter months the smooth water offers beautiful reflections.
Another popular spot to photograph Half Dome, especially during the winter months, is from Cook's Meadow. Here
you will have an opportunity to use the bike path as a leading line to photograph Half Dome in the background.
